Sisterhood is good for the soul
How many times have you told yourself you needed a break and never took it? Or did you take time out from your busy schedule to relax, only to find yourself worried and stressed about everything you left behind? Well, if I’m honest, that has been me for the last few years. Probably longer than that if I’m completely transparent. Taking the time to reset and center yourself while worrying about everything else in life is not a true vacation and it definitely is not self-care. This is why I’m so excited I have a group of women in my life who care just as much as family and understand the value of friendship.
To quote one of my good good girlfriends, Nilegoddess, “Sisterhood is good for the soul.” It is reaffirming and necessary. That was never truer in my life than the last few months where my ‘sistas pulled me to the sidelines with love and encouraged me to take time for myself. They each in their own way loved me in a manner that made me take a deeper look at who I am and the life I want to design moving forward. That type of reality check is not easy, but is well worth it indeed. To have that level of trust and a tribe who can create safe spaces to inhabit and just be, is very special and I thank them dearly for it.
If I’ve learned nothing else this year it’s that we deserve great things and should accept that fact. The things I’m referring to are at times material, but most of all intangible. We deserve to love ourselves authentically and unconditionally. We deserve quiet spaces to reset our mind and hearts. We deserve beautiful moments and comfort in knowing that it will all be okay if there are any moments that disappoint or hurt. And lastly, we deserve all the things life has to offer. All the troubles of the world are not solved in a simple weekend getaway or time stolen to have brunch with friends, but those are the occasions uniquely made for reclaiming who you are and the life you choose to lead.
